March is a special month for women around the world because of International Women’s Day on March 8. Here at Agnes Scott, every day is a Women’s Day as we celebrate our strengths and support each other in achieving our goals throughout the journey as Scotties.
This year’s global celebrations of International Women’s Day were even more exciting, and they included a social media project called #PaintItPurple. People around the globe chose purple as a symbolic color of “justice and dignity – two values strongly associated with women’s equality” (check here for more information). It just happens to be that purple is the color of Agnes Scott, too. Check out some prospective Scotties from the class of 2019 who participated in the project, supporting International Women’s Day 2015.
Lastly, I would like to invite you all to visit The Profile, the student newspaper at Agnes Scott, to read about an annual event of a global movement that stands against women’s injustice — One Billion Rising. This is only one example of many ways that students at Agnes Scott get involved in actions for women empowerment. How will you, as a Scottie, make a difference one day?
